Three individuals will be inducted into the Oregon Sporting Clays Hall of Fame for 2026: Craig Miya for shooting achievements and service, John Murphy for shooting achievements and Brian Tarilton for service.

Each individual’s contribution whether it be their career shooting achievements or their dedicated service, has advanced the sport of Sporting Clays in Oregon for decades.  All have served as Oregon’s ambassadors to the sport and have represented us well on the local and national stage.

Shooting and Service Award - Craig Miya

NSCA #508584, 69,015 lifetime targets. Craig has been shooting Sporting since the early 1990’s. Regarding his Achievements shooting, he has been selected to the Oregon All-State Team (10) times for Open in ’08, Vet in ’07, ’13, Super Vet in ’14, ’17, ’18, & Sr. Super Vet, ’22, ’23, ’24, & 26. His name is listed many, many times on the Oregon Champions perpetual plaque and perpetual Buckets. Regarding his Service to our sport, I’m betting Craig has logged more hours and has taught more shooters how to shoot Sporting Clays and/or to improve their game than anyone else! He’s been at it for over ten years.

In Craig’s words….”I’m so grateful for being involved in the Sporting Clays community as, Participant and Shooting Instructor.  I’ve been blessed to enjoy the Company of so many likeminded individuals”.  

Shooting Achievement - John Murphy

NSCA #520952, 50,400 lifetime targets. John has been shooting since the mid-1990’s. He was the Oregon State HOA Champion in 2003 and has been RU a few times as well as many other State titles and has his name engraved many times on Oregon’s perpetual plaque and buckets. He has been selected to the Oregon All-State Team (9) times dating back to 1999 for C class, ’04- B class, Open ’05, AA in ’06 & ’16, & Vet in 2022 thru 2025.  

In John’s words…

We sold our house in 2021 and became nomads. I hunt in the fall and travel to Florida in January to do the snowbird thing.

Our daughter lives in St. Louis so we see her on the way east and again on the way back. We have seen a lot of the country, state, and federal parks, and of course, the biggest ball of twine…lol. The best part is that I get to shoot a lot. If you ever make it to any of the big shoots on the east coast in the winter, look me up. After shooting one tournament you will never complain about hard targets in Oregon again.

Service - Brian Tarilton

NSCA# 526607, life member, lifetime targets 63,000 targets, All-State Team in 2002- E Class, 2005- A Class & 2020- Sr. Super Vet. In Skip’s words… “Through his five stand he has introduced many shooters into the shooting sports . As a local gun shop owner, he has donated much time and experience to shooting sports.” Out of the Portland Gun Club, some 15 years ago, Brian held various Fun Shoots and then his famous 5-stand every Thursday. Usually with a warm fire going, coffee, donuts and a lunch was provided to the shooters as well as very appropriate heckling by Brian if you missed a target, he thought you should have hit.”    

In Brian’s words…”I’ve enjoyed sporting clays for 40 plus years because of all the great people I’ve met. Having FUN is what keeps me shooting”.
